I Wish

"Lois fell off a building trying to catch a picture of me."
Clark smiled, even through everything that had happened. "She didn't even figure out it was me. I tried to hide my face and that's when she fell. I managed to catch her before she hit the ground. I dropped her as quickly as I could, before she saw my face. She hasn't been avoiding me lately so I suspect that she has no idea. But then again, you never know with Lois."
He stopped, not wanting to talk about Lois. Talking about her just brings him back to the real reason he's here. He looked down at the ground, thinking of what had happened recently that he could talk about. "I saw Lana the other day, nothing special, just a hello and goodbye. If only my conversations with Lois were just like that."
He smiled again, trying to keep himself in a good mood. "She's not an easy person to talk to. With all her bodyguards and stuff aside. Even though she knows my secret, it doesn't really...work. I wanted her to know, but when I finally told her...."
Clark broke off, not wanting to admit that it wasn't the same. It just doesn't feel the same. It doesn't feel right. He didn't want to talk about that, so instead he moved on. "We got the Justice League up and running. Since I came back from my training..."
He broke off again, remembering what he had come home to find. He shook his head, and continued. "Since I came back...we've been working on it. We've become public. People all know our names. Well, not our actual names, our super hero names."
He scoffed, continuing, "I'm no longer Boyscout, which is a good call, on my behalf. But then again, the name I got wasn't exactly my first choice either. I'm now, Superman. Cheesy, I know. But Oliver said it fitted so I went along with it. And I'm also the leader now. Oliver said I was more 'equipped' for the situation."
Clark looked up into the sky, trying to keep talking. "Bart got a name change too. I thought he was fine with Impulse, knowing him, but Bart wanted a name change. He's now The Flash. I have to admit, it's a better name than mine."
He looked back towards the ground, and the flowers in his hand. "We're going to be saving people everyday now, and that's going to be my living. It's all very exciting but...."
He broke off, struggling to keep his voice steady. "But, I know that there are going to be some that I cannot save. And that's killing me. Because it all brings me back to the last person I couldn't save."
He gave up, his tears now flowing freely down his face. "But, I just wish, I...."
He paused, gathering himself. He rested the tulips on the ground before him, marked by a granite tomb stone.
"I wish...that..I could have saved you Chloe."
